BuyHelper Privacy Policy

Summary
- Your photos never leave your device. Price tag images are processed locally.
- Only the recognized text (product name, price, size — the information printed on the tag) is sent to our server.
- Your price history is stored entirely on your device. We keep no copy.
- No account is required. We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or location.
1. Photos
Photos of price tags remain on your device only.
The app retains the most recent few scans so you can verify results afterwards; older images are deleted automatically. These photos are never uploaded to our servers or to any third party, and they are removed when you delete the app.
2. Text Recognition
To convert package sizes into comparable unit prices, the app:
- Recognizes text from the tag on your device, using Apple’s built-in on-device text recognition
- Sends that text only (no image) to our server at
buy-helper-api.tyeydy.com - Forwards it to Google Gemini for interpretation
- Returns the result to your device
The transmitted content is information printed on the price tag — product name, price, volume, brand, store item number. It is product information and does not include your personal identity.
We use Google Gemini’s paid service tier. Under Google’s terms, content sent through the paid tier is not used to train their models.
Our server does not retain this recognized text. It records only measurable information — timestamp, token usage, processing time, and whether the request succeeded — in order to calculate your free quota and our service costs.
3. Your Price Records
The products, prices, brands, stores, and price history you record are stored entirely on your device. We hold no copy.
This means:
- We cannot see what you bought, where you bought it, or how much you paid
- Deleting the app deletes these records
- When you change devices, the data is restored along with your iPhone backup, if you have one
4. Device Identification
To calculate free scan quota and prevent automated abuse of the service, the app:
- Generates a random identifier stored in your device’s Keychain. It is not linked to your Apple ID, phone number, or any personal identity.
- Uses Apple’s App Attest to prove to our server that requests come from a genuine, unmodified copy of this app.
Our server records scan counts against this random identifier only, for quota purposes.
5. Usage Analytics
The app uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics to improve the product:
- Session counts and feature usage
- Device model and operating system version
- Crash reports
Advertising-related collection — ad personalization, ad user data, and ad storage — is disabled, and the app does not perform cross-app tracking.
6. What We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or share:
- Name, email address, or phone number
- Location data
- Contacts
- Your photo library contents
This app does not require account registration.

8. Data Deletion
- On-device data: deleting the app removes all of it.
- Server-side usage records: if you would like the records associated with your device removed, contact us by email and we will delete them.
9. Children’s Privacy
BuyHelper does not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13.
10. Policy Changes
If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be published on this page and the “Last Updated” date above will be revised.
